As an Assistant General Manager at
AVE Austin North Lamar, Monica delivers seamless community management by providing guidance and support to all members of the team with their daily duties. This includes assisting the resident services team, monitoring financial operations to achieve budget goals, and working alongside maintenance and housekeeping to guarantee the highest level of service to our residents. She takes great pride in the fiduciary responsibility of her role by processing accounts receivable and payables in a timely manner and accurately communicating the performance of the community to all stakeholders.
Q: What is a typical workday like for you?
My typical workday involves helping all members of my team. I like to think of my position as not just someone who processes accounts receivables and payables, but also as someone who can perform multiple roles within the organization. I enjoy helping Resident Services create bookings and managing arrivals and departures, to assisting the Leasing Manager with prospective residents on community tours to the moment they sign a lease, to being a support to my General Manager in every capacity possible. Overall, I truly enjoy being able to stay calm during challenging moments and providing my team with the same support our leadership has given to me.
Q: How long have you been working in this industry?
I have been working in this industry for almost a decade and wouldn’t trade these last few years for anything. The experiences have molded me into the person I am today.
Q: What do you love most about being a part of the AVE team?
I love the support I get from other AVE team members, including those who do not work at the same community. There are some colleagues I had not yet met in-person, but we were in constant communication as we worked together on internal projects. When we finally did meet in-person, it was as if we had known each other forever and saw one another often.
Q: What is your favorite amenity or service at AVE Austin North Lamar?
My favorite amenity at AVE Austin North Lamar is the Sky Lounge. When I first toured the community, I was pleasantly surprised to see Downtown Austin from our lounge. I immediately felt at home. I was born and raised in Austin and have seen the area grow so much. It was a great moment of self-reflection of how much I have grown myself.
Q: What is your favorite hobby and why?
I enjoy any hobby that involves being active and competitive. During my childhood, playing basketball was my favorite hobby. I perfected the Allen Iverson cross-over and had a buzzer beater jump shot. As an adult, my favorite hobby is spending time with my 10-year-old son, Vincent, and my wild 17-month-old, Jordyn. Vincent plays Select Soccer and Jordyn pretends she does! Most of my evenings and weekends are devoted to being Vincent’s personal Uber driver for his practices and games as well as chasing Jordyn off the field as if I am soccer security.
Q: What is your favorite spot in Austin and why?
My favorite spot in Austin is Chuy’s. I love good Tex-Mex food. I can eat an entire bowl of their jalapeno ranch sauce and chips with a refreshing beverage.
Q: What are 2 or 3 fun facts about you that we might not know?
Like the properties that are maintained by our excellent teams, I never get a day older but get a day better! Additionally, I can still do a cartwheel and forward flip on the trampoline, as well as dunk on a seven-foot basketball goal at my “better” age.
